April 7, 2011, Baguio City. — The Philex Pine Cup 2011 preparations just hit another notch with the press conference and ceremonial signing with the Philex Mining Corporation, the cup’s name sponsor.
Held at Savory Classic Chicken SM Baguio City in front of the roomful of local media, the Tournament Commissioner, Atty. Homer S. Alinsug, announced that there are 20 teams participating in the Men’s Open category and several other teams in the Ladies and age categories. Meantime, the official representative and legal counsel of Philex Mining Corporation, Atty. Ed Aratas, expressed Philex’s excitement in supporting this event and being a partner in promoting grassroots football in Baguio City. Hon. Councilor Elmer Datuin, the over-all chairperson of the of SUMVAC 2011 and the chairperson for tourism and special events of the city council, graced the occasion and confirmed the city’s rising support of football in the city. Virgie Tibaldo-Bungay and Arnold Jimenez, the Vice-President of the Baguo City Football Association (BCFA) and President of the Baguio United Football Club (BUFC) were also in attendance.
As announced by the tournament commissioiner, the following are the participating teams in the Men’s Open category:

During this conference, the formal sponsorship signing with Philex was done with Atty. Ed Aratas representing the Philex Mining Corporation as the name and main sponsor for the Philex Pine Cup 2011. The other signatories were Arnold Jimenez and Atty. Homer Alinsug. The Philex Pine Cup 2011 is part of the city’s SUMVAC 2011 activities and is supported by the City of Baguio and sanctioned by the Baguio City FA and the Philippine Football Federation.
Games will kick off on April 9, 2011 at 8am. A simple opening program to be graced by the Hon. Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Hon. Councilor Elmer Datuin is set at 10am on opening day.
